Very soon, the country will celebrate a holiday that cannot be imagined without the president's congratulations and the chiming of the Kremlin chimes. From millions of TV screens they count down the last seconds of the outgoing year and announce the arrival of a new one.
But such a seemingly unshakable tradition has not developed everywhere. In some regions, the bell from the Spasskaya Tower is heard an hour before or after midnight. Channel One decided to fix it.
They know exactly which channel will be the main one on New Year's Eve. A family from Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky awaits her with special trepidation. For the first time in many years, Kamchatka will see the President's address at 23:55 local time on Channel One.
Muscovites and Petersburgers may seem nonsense, but in Khabarovsk, the head of state's speech was shown at one in the morning. And in Omsk, the president addressed the country at 11 pm. The New Year's rhythm was interrupted by the outdated, still Soviet television broadcasting system.
“Our country stretches over 11 time zones. From Kaliningrad to Chukotka and Kamchatka. But historically, Channel One programs are broadcast in five broadcasting zones, ”explained Valentina Udalova, Director of the Channel One Program Distribution Networks Directorate (Moscow).
These zones were created to compensate for the time difference with Moscow. Zero, two hours, four, six, eight. With such a shift, the broadcast was launched. But residents of the remaining, odd, time zones had to see TV programs sooner or later.
“To correct this historical mistake, this year, for the first time, Channel One decided to broadcast the President's New Year greetings in all 11 time zones,” Valentina Udalova said.
That is, in each region, Channel One will show the New Year's address five minutes before midnight local time. For this, the existing group of space communications, satellites, cable networks were involved.
This is the etheric heart of the entire First Channel. Here, a television signal is generated to every point in the country. From here, the New Year's address of the President of the Russian Federation will be launched. So that on the night from 31 to 1 everything goes perfectly, they are already testing the equipment and rehearsing how the New Year broadcast will be held in all time zones of our country. But there will be no time for fun here. They themselves need to arrange a holiday for the whole country 11 times in a row.
