The florist's lunar calendar is a useful assistant in growing ornamental plants, which is used by many experienced gardeners. Scientists have long proven that the intensity of growth and flowering of indoor and garden flowers largely depends on the phase in which the Moon is in the sky. Taking into account the lunar cycles, it is easier for the gardener to navigate the timing of planting and subsequent care of a particular plant. The gardener's lunar calendar for January 2019 will help you find out about the most favorable days for replanting flowers in the ground and sowing seeds so that they take root better and decorate flower beds and window sills with abundant blooms.
Aquilegia seeds lose their germination very quickly. The best results can be obtained by sowing freshly harvested seeds into the soil in winter. But if the idea of growing a catchment has just struck you, and you don’t know exactly how long the seed was purchased and how long it was stored, then the seeds need to be stratified.
The procedure with such a frighteningly scientific name is actually simple: the seeds need to be kept in the cold (in the refrigerator, for example) for a month and a half before sowing. It is optimal to sow aquilegia for seedlings in January, deepening the seeds 3-5 mm, and burying the container with the crops in the snow for stratification. Having taken it out closer to March, place it in a warm place and wait for friendly shoots, periodically moistening the soil with a spray bottle.
Important: Aquilegia seeds are poisonous! It is better to work with them with gloves, not to mention the fact that it is unacceptable to try them “by the teeth”.
- Eustoma
Eustoma - resembles a rose and is very beautiful flower, which can bloom not only in the garden, but also on the window at home.
She is incredibly beautiful and has won the hearts of many gardeners, but she is developing too slowly. Professionals advise picking this flower twice during growth. Blooms in June-July.
Advice. Cultivation of eustoma is too labor-intensive, so this plant is not suitable for everyone, but only for lovers of everything complex.
- Verbena
Verbena is a flowering perennial plant, although in our area it is grown as an annual. Its small flowers are collected in “umbrellas” of various colors. Verbena is unpretentious and beautiful, blooming all summer and early autumn. Has a pleasant smell. Propagates well by seeds.
Verbena seeds can be sown for seedlings in February-March, but often due to lack of light, the growth of seedlings slows down. Therefore, in order to get good strong seedlings at the end of April, it is worth sowing the seeds at the end of January. As a substrate for planting, you can take perlite or sand (sometimes mixed with peat).
After about a month, when picking, plant the plants in more nutritious soil, add turf soil or humus and a little wood ash, you can immediately plant them in separate cups. It will be possible to plant in flower beds in May, when the threat of the slightest frost has passed.
Winter is still in full swing, and summer residents are already busy with work. The land is being prepared for planting seedlings, seed material is being purchased and, of course, plans are being made for the coming season. The sowing calendar for gardeners and gardeners for January 2019 will help you choose favorable days for sowing flower seeds and early vegetables.

Disinfection of seeds at low temperatures
Seeds vegetable crops, if they are well dried and packed in a jar with a tight lid or well tied plastic bag, you can keep it in the cold (in the freezer) for as long as you like: a year, two, or ten. But seeds in a paper bag, if left on a loggia, balcony, in a cold country house or a barn, they may not survive the winter: the frost will dry them out, and constant changes in temperature and air humidity will destroy the embryos.
When the temperature and humidity rise, the seeds sweat, when the temperature drops, they dry out, then sweat again. Such contrasts deprive seeds vitality. Even if you bought the seeds in an unheated store or carried them home for a long time in frosty weather, when you get home, put the bags in the refrigerator so that they don’t sweat in a warm room.
At home, it is better to store seeds in a well-ventilated, dry, cool place.
Hardening seeds in the refrigerator
To disinfect at low temperatures, it is enough to place the seeds in a cotton bag two weeks before sowing and place them in the refrigerator at a temperature of 0 to minus 4 degrees. You can cover the seeds in a bag with snow in early spring somewhere in a shady corner of the garden or in some container on the loggia or balcony. This method increases the germination of seeds and the immunity of future plants.
There is another way to influence low temperatures for seeds - cooling, hardening.
The seeds are soaked and kept for 12 hours at a temperature of about plus 20 degrees. Then they are placed in the refrigerator for 12 hours (from 0 to minus 2-3 degrees). Thus, the seeds are exposed to variable temperatures for 10-12 days.
What does this give? Plants growing from hardened seeds begin to bear fruit earlier, are more productive, and are resistant to weather and other stresses.
The swollen and even beginning to germinate seeds of carrots, parsley, celery, dill, cabbage, if kept for 3-5 days at a temperature of minus 3-5 degrees, will form a harvest about a week earlier, and it will be of higher quality.
Such hardening may be unintentional. Let's say that in the spring you planned a trip to the country and soaked the seeds of root vegetables in advance. But the trip was canceled due to bad weather or for some other reasons. This is where you remember that swollen seeds can sit in the refrigerator and at the same time not only not lose their germination, but will also harden.
The seeds of cucumbers and tomatoes are also hardened in a similar way. First, the seeds are soaked at a temperature of 15-20 degrees: cucumbers 6 hours, tomatoes - 12 hours. Then the seeds are kept warm for 12 hours and taken out into the cold for 12 hours. For cucumber seeds, maintain a temperature of minus 1-3 degrees, for tomatoes - minus 1-5 degrees. For tomato seeds, treatment with variable temperatures lasts 10 days, for cucumber seeds - 5-7 days. The seeds of both crops should sprout. You can sow them and expect a rich, healthy harvest.
Still, both freezing and hardening of seeds require scrupulousness. Do something wrong or forget about the seeds while they are wet or in the refrigerator, and get a negative result.
According to the gardener's lunar calendar for January 2019, the main work is mainly carried out in the greenhouse and in storage facilities. On the windowsills you can arrange a mini-garden (greens, and even peppers, tomatoes, cucumbers).
If it is possible to provide additional lighting, then you can start forcing tomatoes, peppers and other garden crops with a long ripening period into seedlings. At the same time, do not forget to lower the temperature when the first shoots appear.
In the garden, young trees must be treated against rodents and protected from frost. If there is snow, then you can sprinkle it on the strawberry beds and bury the trees and shrubs in the form of a cone. Also, if a lot of snow falls, it must be periodically carefully removed from the branches so that they do not break. If we are late in the fall, then we remove from the trees and burn the wintering nests of pests such as hawthorn, lacewings, and remove mummified fruits.
Don't forget about the birds - install feeders for them. Caring for living beings always returns a hundredfold. This will attract more birds to your site, and they, in turn, will not only delight your ears with pleasant singing, but will save you from many garden pests.
In areas that are heavily eroded by meltwater, you can clear away the snow so that the ground freezes thoroughly.
If this was not done in the fall, then in January you can take care of covering the coniferous plants with white non-woven material from the destructive rays of the winter sun.
In January it is also necessary to take care of the future harvest. To do this, you can already purchase seeds and prepare containers for planting seedlings. Make a sowing plan, decide what, where and how much you want to sow, look at the stocks of seeds left over from previous years and check their expiration dates.
Collect eggshells onion skins, potato peelings, spent tea and coffee, as well as peels of citrus crops, which must be dried and subsequently used to spray plants against aphids and leaf-eating insects.
A very favorable time for forcing chicory.

Based on this data, they also determine favorable days for pruning, pinching, picking, weeding, grafting and other work.
The phases of the moon directly affect plants, stimulating one or another part of them.
In the waxing Moon phase, processes in the upper part of plants accelerate, and any activities with crops bearing fruit above the ground lay the foundation for their future harvest.
To obtain an excellent harvest of tuberous and bulbous crops, sowing, planting and caring for them is best done during the waning moon.

The influence of moon phases on indoor plants?
The impact of the Earth's satellite on the growth and vital activity of all life on our planet has long been studied by scientists. The lunar cycle is 28 days and consists of several phases that affect plant growth. Based on these data, a lunar calendar for a gardener, gardener, or florist is created every year.
The waxing moon phase for the gardener
The most active growth of any plant, directed from the roots upward, is the phase of the waxing Moon. A young month is a good time for active growth of the above-ground parts of plants, elongation of stems, leaves, and formation of buds. It is on these days of the monthly cycle that you can plant flowers that differ rapid growth and beautiful flowering. It is better to postpone planting bulbous and club crops and transplanting plants during the waxing moon phase, since root system is in a calm state and the adaptation period for the plant after planting in a new place will be more difficult. In addition, during the waxing Moon it is not recommended to prune or shorten the stems of the plant, as this procedure can lead to a stop in its growth. Due to the intensity of growth of the above-ground parts of flowers, they need abundant watering.
Waning Moon phase for the florist
The waning Moon has a strong influence on the development of the root system of any garden or vegetable crop. During this period of the monthly cycle, the root system actively develops and becomes vulnerable to damage. The waning phase of the Moon is favorable for applying fertilizers to the soil, fertilizing, weed control, as well as for planting legumes, tubers and bulbous crops that take root well and produce abundant seedlings. The above-ground part of the plants stops growing; you can trim the stems or cut the flowers for transportation.
New moon for the florist
The birth of a new moon is the calmest period in the life of plants. It is not recommended to plant or collect seeds, replant flowers in the ground or cultivate the soil on this day.
Full moon for the gardener
Is the most suitable day for applying fertilizers, combating weed grass and pests. Excellent time to collect seeds.
