Flowerbed, flower garden and flower girl on a summer cottage
Flower beds are used in landscape design to highlight certain areas of the territory. They allow you to emphasize the overall plan of the garden, identify its main elements and hide undesirable aspects. To create the maximum effect, flowers must be combined into specific compositions based on shades, sizes and flowering periods. Therefore, before setting up a flower garden, it is important to study the illumination of the selected location, its accessibility for viewing, compatibility with the background, terrain, the possibility of regular watering, etc.
When creating a flower garden, you need to consider several rules:
- the color combination should be harmonious;
- the taller the plants, the closer to the center they are planted;
- It is recommended to plant plants rarely in the center of the flowerbed, and densely along the edges;
- It is advisable to avoid overly small and complex designs.
Flowerbeds
Flower beds are compositions of flowers, designed in the form of geometric shapes - square, triangle, rectangle, circle, etc. These compositions are placed at the intersection of paths, at the entrance to the garden or house (front garden), at the end of the path. They stand apart from the generally accepted flower beds and use.
Raised flower bed made of natural stone
The arrangement of such types of flower beds as a flower bed or a flower bed does not require any installation measures; it is enough to decide on the shape and size, arrange a low fence around the perimeter of the flower bed, prepare the soil and plant the plants. If you want to arrange a flower garden at some elevation, then you will have to arm yourself with tools.
Natural stone of the most bizarre shape is suitable for constructing a flower bed. First you need to decide on the location and shape of the future flower bed. Next, a layer of turf 15-20 cm thick is removed over the entire area. The resulting recess is filled with broken bricks, crushed stone, etc. A cement-sand mortar is laid along the perimeter of the flowerbed with an even strip (the width is equal to the thickness of the future wall). The solution is lightly pressed into the base.
Now you can start laying the walls. When laying, try to select stones so that they fit as closely as possible to each other (the layer of mortar between them should not be too thick). Every 1 - 1.5 hours of work, the seams on the folded wall fragments should be unstitched, compacting the solution. After the wall reaches the desired height, its top is leveled with mortar and reinforced - sprinkled with dry cement and rubbed with a trowel. To protect the wall, its inner surface, which will be in constant contact with the soil, should be treated with two or three layers of waterproofing mastic (for example, bitumen) and dried well. After this, the “trough” of the flowerbed can be filled with soil and plants can be planted.
Since the load on the walls will be minimal, you can also use those stones that you rejected, for example, when constructing a rubble foundation during the construction of a country house or gazebo.
Raised flower bed made from boards or wooden slats
When wood fits more organically into the design of the site, the walls of the flower bed can be made of wood.
The easiest option is to build a flowerpot from an old wooden tub or tub. You need to knock out the bottom of the tub and treat the inner surface of the walls with a protective compound. At the site where the flowerpot is installed, it is necessary to remove the turf, fill the hole with crushed stone, install the flowerpot, fill it with soil and plant the plants.
If you want to make a large flower bed, you can use boards 2 - 2.5 cm thick and 8 - 10 cm wide for the walls; Plan the ends of the planks that will be recessed into pegs and burn (or tar). Choose a place for the flowerbed, outline the shape, remove 15-20 cm of turf over the entire area, and dig a groove around the perimeter to the same depth. Treat the boards with a protective compound. Having installed the pegs-planks in the groove, drive them into the ground with blows of a mallet. Place the boards as close to each other as possible.
Fill a wooden container with soil. To prevent the boards from moving apart, tighten them with hoops, the role of which can be played by steel packaging tape, which is nailed to the boards or screwed with screws.
If your house is made in the form of a log house, then the flowerbed can be made with chopped walls. Select identical pieces of logs of small diameter; for each log (except for the four bottom ones), select a groove on one side along the entire length with a depth of about half the diameter. To connect the logs into crowns, cut two cups on each log (except the two bottom ones); Stitch the two lower logs along one side to half the diameter.
Flowerbed-log house - log house for flowers
Now you can start assembling the walls. Remove the turf from the entire area of the flowerbed and fill the hole with crushed stone. Lay a layer of waterproofing (for example, roofing felt) around the perimeter of the future flowerbed with tape. Cover the hewn sides of the two lower logs with bitumen mastic, lay them along two opposite sides with the hews facing down - these will be the supporting logs of the casing crown. The two upper logs of the frame crown are laid across the lower ones, resting on them with cups. The first two logs of the first crown are laid across the top logs of the casing crown, etc., until the walls of the flowerbed reach the desired height.
To prevent the walls of the log house from moving apart, they are additionally connected with dowels, for which nests are selected in the logs.
This flower garden is especially good where there is not much space for decorative vegetation, for example, in front of the entrance to the garage or on the terrace. Its shape can be any, but it is advisable to plan it so that only whole bricks are used in the masonry. If the wall of the flower garden is adjacent to the wall of the house, then waterproofing should be provided so that water does not damage the wall of the house. Roofing felt or roofing felt is suitable for this purpose.
The construction of a flower garden begins with the construction of a good foundation. For a flower garden with walls of one brick and a height of five rows, it is enough to fill a shallow (15 cm) groove with concrete, dug in the shape of the future structure and slightly wider than it. If the flower garden has higher walls, the thickness of the concrete foundation slab is increased, and if the length of the foundation exceeds 2 m, it is reinforced. After pouring, the surface of the foundation is leveled and left for two weeks until the concrete hardens. Then they start laying.
First, as when building a house, the corners are brought up, checking their verticality using a level and a batten, and then the masonry is laid between them. In order for the first row to be straight, it is laid on a flat strip lying on the foundation. Every second vertical seam in the bottom row is not filled with mortar - this creates drainage holes to remove excess moisture from the flower bed.
Further laying is carried out with bandaging, controlling the newly laid row using a cord, an even strip or a level. If necessary, the position of individual bricks is corrected by tapping them with the handle of a trowel. The masonry of the last (top) row is decorative; it is done with bricks placed on a butt, making sure that the seams are the same width.
The final operation is unstitching. It is performed using either special tools (like the operation itself, they are called joints), or a suitable rod or a piece of hose. Beautifully embroidered seams give the masonry surface a clear pattern. The seams are unstitched immediately upon completion of the masonry, before the mortar has hardened.
Flower girls
Flowers in the garden can be grown not only in flower beds. In many cases, it is even more convenient to plant them in flower beds - tubs, tubs, flowerpots or traditional pots with a volume of 5 to 30 liters. The small size of such a micro-flower bed allows, firstly, to shelter delicate plants from any weather vagaries in a greenhouse or greenhouse. And secondly, to create attractive and very unusual compositions that are difficult to create in open ground.
When choosing a flower container, carefully read the information regarding planting and caring for plants in order to correctly determine the size of the future container needed for your plants. From an aesthetic point of view, the flower girl should be in harmony with the appearance of the plant, but not dominate the overall composition, but fit organically into it, making a pleasant impression and pleasing the eye.
Mobile - portable flower garden
If the area around the house is already asphalted, concreted or paved, and you want to set up a flower garden under the windows or at the entrance to the house, the best way out would be to build a portable flower bed with trellises for climbing plants. Making such a flower bed is very simple. You will need several boards, screws and 5-6 hours of time.
To make a flower box, you need planed pine or spruce boards 25-30 mm thick. For the walls you need 4 boards 150x2000 mm, for the bottom - 2 boards 120x1950 mm. 6 planks 150×350 mm will be used for the sidewalls. However, the dimensions of the box can be easily changed depending on the intended installation location. In cross section, the box has the shape of a rectangular trapezoid.
The assembly of the box begins with pairwise joining of boards for blank parts (walls, sides, bottom). The boards are connected using waterproof glue and dowels or self-tapping screws, preferably with an anti-corrosion coating. A partition is installed in the middle of the box, exactly the same as the sides. It is needed to give rigidity to the long box. After assembly, a series of drainage holes are drilled in the bottom of the box to remove excess moisture.
The grille is assembled from 10×20 mm slats. On a flat surface, horizontal slats are laid out parallel to each other at intervals of 100 mm and vertical slats are glued to them with the same pitch. After the glue has set, the joints in the lattice nodes can be strengthened with small finishing nails.
If you plan to make the structure free-standing, you will need two more two-meter bars 50x50 mm. They are screwed to the back wall of the flower box and act as posts to which the trellis is attached. If you need to decorate the facade of the house, then the grille is attached to the wall by wrapping self-tapping screws into dowels. The position of the dowels is chosen so that the grille is attached to the nodes. In order for the plants to entwine the trellis, it must not be attached flush to the wall, so spacer bosses are placed on screws between the trellis and the wall.
In this case, the flower box is installed exactly under the grille. It can also be hung from the wall using brackets (for example, those used to hang a sink) or simply placed on the ground with a few bricks and pieces of roofing felt for waterproofing.
To prevent rotting, wooden boxes and grates are impregnated with an antiseptic compound or painted. The box is laid out with plastic film, making holes in it corresponding to the position of the drainage holes in the bottom of the box.
You can also use bamboo stalks to make trellises. Then the racks are made from thicker stems. There is no need to screw them to the walls of the box; Thick stems are simply placed in the right places and the box is filled with soil. The lathing is made from thin stems, securing them to posts, and also fastening them to each other with bandages made from strips of bast. A lattice made of wicker will also look great, but it should not be made too high, 80-100 cm is enough, and the weave of the lattice should not be tight.
It has long been known that the use of cement for the construction of gardens and parks is not limited to the trivial construction of retaining walls, staircases and walkways. Its decorative possibilities are much wider. Cement can be bought everywhere, the material is inexpensive, easy to use, and products made from it are suitable for use in any climatic conditions.
Flower girl concrete consists of cement, filler and water mixed in a ratio of 2:6:1. Sand or fine gravel is mainly used as filler, but to reduce the weight of the product, sawdust, expanded clay or peat are also used. The great advantage of concrete as a material for decorative flower beds is its plasticity and ability to take any given shape. Thus, from the sketches it is easy to create products of the most bizarre configuration. They can be of almost any shape, color and size. Concrete containers, like ceramic ones, have many advantages. The main thing is that they are made of porous material, breathable and allowing excess moisture to evaporate. Such containers can be painted ready-made or the material can be tinted during the manufacturing process. The only drawback of such products is their significant weight. But it also has a great advantage - such flower beds with plants will stand in place even in a strong wind, without turning over or falling. In addition, they are very durable.
The quality of the surface of the flower bed depends on the prepared mixture. How fine or coarse the surface of the finished concrete product will be depends on the grain size of the sand used in the mixture. Fine-grained sand, which we will use in our work, allows us to obtain a smooth and slightly shiny surface of the product when using formwork. A mixture of cement and coarse sand produces a rough surface. To obtain a rougher surface structure, you can mix cement, sand and peat in a ratio of 2:3:4; the result is a material as strong and durable as concrete, but lighter.
If the container is to be colored, dissolve the dye in water to create a relatively weak color solution. As a dye, you can use special pigments for concrete mixtures or colors for emulsion paints. While mixing the finished cement mixture, replace part of the water with this solution. When dosing the concentrate, you should remember that after the concrete dries, the paint tone will become much lighter.
If you are still not sure about the correct concentration, it is worth making test stones and recording the exact proportions of the materials used in the mixture. In addition, it is always possible to paint the surface of finished products with exterior paints that are resistant to adverse weather conditions. You can also decorate the flower girl with drawings made by hand or using a stencil. And if you attach carved strips or plates with figured cutouts to the inside of the formwork boards, then they will form a relief pattern on the walls of the future container.
It is best for a novice craftsman to choose a container that is simple in design, simple and elegant in execution. The formwork for making a concrete flower box can be made of wood. In this case, the external formwork boards are screwed together so that they can be easily removed later. If necessary, carved strips or plates are attached from the inside to emboss a relief pattern, plugs are inserted into the places of future drainage holes and reinforcing grids are laid. Wire mesh or steel wire is used as reinforcement, laid inside the mold so that it is in the middle of the wall of the future product, and not on its surface. Drainage holes are placed in the center of the bottom for a round flower bowl or in a row with an interval of 20 cm for an oblong one. Holes can also be in the walls at the bottom level. If you forgot to install the plugs or it’s inconvenient to do it in this form, it doesn’t matter. Drainage holes can be drilled with a regular hand drill in the finished product.
Having prepared the formwork, a layer of concrete 6-10 cm thick is laid on its bottom and the internal formwork is installed at an equal distance from the outer walls, ensuring the same uniform thickness of the wall of the flower box. To prevent the inner mold from floating, it must be loaded by placing several large, heavy stones on the bottom. Now the cavity between the outer and inner walls is filled evenly along the entire perimeter with concrete. In this case, the concrete mixture must be compacted and stirred to remove air bubbles.
After 5 - 7 days, when the concrete has hardened, the formwork is removed. After this, within two days you can use a wire brush to process the corners and give the planes of the walls a decorative roughness.
As a form, you can use various plastic buckets, tanks, deep basins or baths. Typically, these plastic utensils have a slightly conical shape and smooth sides, allowing them to be easily removed from the finished casting and reused.
If you carefully wrap the inner formwork with film, it will be easier to remove it later.
Even craftsmen with little experience in such work can make wooden containers for planting flowers.
The dimensions, of course, can be changed depending on specific conditions. However, we should not forget that the larger the container, the heavier it is. Therefore, due to their large weight, it is advisable to equip large containers with wheels.
These tubs are made from pressure-impregnated coniferous wood. For one tub, the following parts will be required: corner posts 8 pcs., side boards 16 pcs., side boards 18 pcs., bottom boards 3 pcs., and also required: 1 m² of polyethylene film 1 mm thick; galvanized nails; waterproof glue.
Each of the four corner posts is made of two bars, connected to each other using waterproof glue and nails. The lower and upper boards of the side walls connect two racks, while the lower board is placed 15 mm from the end of the racks. Then the remaining boards of the side wall are fastened with glue and nails, placing them with some clearance. The second side element is assembled in the same way. Both elements are connected by side wall boards.
Two more boards are attached to two opposite side walls from the inside, flush with the edge of the bottom boards, as supports for the bottom boards. Now all that remains is to attach the three bottom boards to the supports. To avoid contact of the tree with the ground, the assembled container is covered with film from the inside, passing it through the cracks between the two top boards. The edges of the film protruding from the outside are cut off.
The finished tub should be painted or varnished to protect it from the destructive effects of precipitation. You can decorate it using a relief geometric element attached to the center of the front side of the tub.
Flower girls made of wood
An original flower girl can be made by hollowing out a stump or log of a suitable shape. Pots for growing garden flowers are also made from other available materials: old barrels, tubs, pans.
But in this case it is very difficult to make flower beds similar in shape and size. It is even more difficult to maintain them in the same style or to assemble them into one general composition. The simplest solution suggests itself - to hide all these different-sized tubs, pots and tubs behind light decorative fences.
It is not difficult to make such flower stands, and any scraps of boards 15 - 20 mm thick and waterproof plywood that are unsuitable for other purposes will be used. The width of the side walls is 600 - 650 mm, and the height is from 350 to 450 mm.
First, planks cut to size according to templates are assembled into boards, screwing them to the transverse slats with screws, and then the assembled boards (side walls) are attached to the corner posts either with tenons or using metal furniture corners.
It is better to make the bottom of such flower beds removable, either from a sheet of durable waterproof plywood 20-25 mm thick with holes for water drainage, or made from bars, between which it is necessary to leave gaps 3-5 mm wide. The same gaps must be left between the side walls and the plywood bottom in case it swells from water.
Flowers planted in pots and tubs have to be watered much more often than in open ground, so all parts of decorative fences should be carefully painted both outside and inside at least two or three times with any waterproof paint. Otherwise, they will lose their attractive appearance without serving until the end of summer.
Flower "tree"
To install such a “tree” you will need very little free space, but many pots with flowers and other types of greenery will fit on it. The height of the structure depends on your height. To make it convenient to water and inspect plants in the upper pots without a stepladder, they should not be located at a height exceeding your height by more than 40 cm.
Shelves for pots are attached to a post made of pressure-impregnated timber with a cross-section of 70x70 mm. The post is inserted into the so-called driving sleeve or installed in the ground in any way convenient for you. Shelf-floors are made extremely simply. For each floor you will need a plank with a cross section of 20x36 mm. Two blanks 535 mm long, four blanks 190 mm long and four blanks 310 mm each are cut from it. The ends are cut at an angle of 45° using a miter saw or simply a geometric protractor and a jigsaw.
Since the shelf-floors are screwed to the mounting strips from below, mark where the screws will be screwed in and pre-drill holes for them. Then cover all structural elements with glaze or paint intended for exterior use. After the planks have dried, you can twist them together. The width of the post will help maintain the distance between the fastening strips. The planks forming the shelves are mounted at the same distance (20 mm) from each other. The shelves are fixed to the pole using clamping clamps, and then secured on each side with two 4x50 mm screws screwed in diagonally.
The top of the post should be cut obliquely or covered with a cap that will protect the cut from moisture penetration.
To prevent the risk of pots tipping over, they can be secured using nylon tape or fishing line. To do this, tie a nail to one end of the tape (it will serve as a spacer) and insert it into the drainage hole of the pot, and tie the other end to the “tree”.
And there is a more modern version of a vertical flower girl, which can be purchased in the store. Growing flowers is always entertaining and brings incomparable pleasure, but when you no longer have space on your plot, you have to think about a more compact arrangement of flower beds. And an innovative version of a vertical flower girl will help solve this problem. This option for a flower bed will save space on your site, and at the same time will allow you to take your flower garden to new heights, in the literal sense of the word.
Wheel flower girl
Typically, tires for flower beds are used simply - they are laid on the ground or on some hill with the tread facing outward. The soil is filled inside and plants are planted. Sometimes the corrugated part of the surface of the tires is painted, and this is the maximum finishing of such flower beds. At the same time, from the same wheel you can make an original flower girl, in which the worn, unattractive tire tread is wrapped inside the tire, and its smooth inner part is turned out. Flower bowls made in this way look very attractive, and it is not immediately clear what they are made of. And their manufacturing technology is very simple.
The tire beads are cut either simply in a circle, or, which is much more original, in a figurative manner. And the more original the cut configuration, the more beautiful the flowerpot will turn out. But in this case you will have to work a little more.
They begin this work by drawing cutting lines on the tire bead with chalk, after which they begin cutting the rubber. Usually a sharpened knife is used for this. And to make cutting easier, it must be frequently moistened with soapy water. The knife is suitable for making simple straight cuts. To obtain a more complex cutting pattern, you will need a jigsaw. In this case, it is also necessary to moisten the cutting line with a soap solution, and also remember one trick - the cut should come as close as possible to the outer edge of the tire (preferably to the metal cord). Turning the tire inside out will then be quite simple. You can make the job of turning out the tire even easier if you also cut through part of the steel cord with a hand-held angle grinder.
After cutting the beads, begin turning the tire inside out. The tire is wrapped first in one place, and then around the entire circumference. This operation requires some effort and skill. Turning the tire outward, bring its curly edge to the desired shape using a grinder.
If a tire that was not removed from the wheel rim was turned out, then its lower part became the leg and support of the flower girl, and the upper part became a container under the ground for planting flower seedlings. If the removed tire is cut, then its separated parts are then mounted on the disk in exactly the same way as when mounting a wheel.
In order for flower beds made in this way to completely lose their resemblance to a car wheel, and for the wheel disk not to rust, they must be coated with a primer and then painted. The primer adheres well to the rubber, which in the future will allow the paint to last longer.
When creating a flower arrangement in your garden or dacha, you should take into account many landscape tricks and think through the design of a flower bed or flower garden down to the smallest detail. If the mixborder is adjacent to a house or hedge, then you need to focus on selecting plants for a one-way view. If it is possible to approach the flower garden from all sides, then you should select crops for the all-round view flower bed, taking into account the principles of opposition and similarity.
A 360-degree composition is a group of plants viewed from different angles. Typically in gardens there are groups of herbaceous perennials located on the lawn. But more original solutions are also possible. For example, a composition built in a paving opening or a group of aquatic plants in a garden pond is very interesting. Even a small flower garden in a terracotta container, if it is skillfully composed, can be considered a composition with an all-round view.
Each flower arrangement in the garden has its own characteristics. So, when planning to set up a flower bed or group on the lawn, think about how in the future it will be convenient for you to mow the grass around the perimeter of the group. In flower beds located in paving openings, low, “padded” plants should overlap the boundaries of the cut window. Garden compositions of perennials grown around the perimeter of the pond should not greatly crush the water surface. The best effect is produced by harmonious compositions proportionate to the area of the reservoir, reflected in the water. But despite all the subtleties, the method of constructing a circular composition remains the same. After all, the laws of visual perception are constant and do not depend in any way on the “genre” of the composition.
When landscaping a flower garden with your own hands, keep in mind that by opening the center and shifting all the plantings to the periphery of the site, you visually enlarge the garden. But such gardens are not always interesting. The composition of the all-round view significantly increases the content of the garden, although it makes it visually smaller.
On this page you will learn how to make a flower garden in your garden not only beautiful, but also original.
How to make a beautiful flower garden in the garden: planning
When planning a flower bed with an all-round view in the garden, you should take into account the style and location. The background of the circular composition changes depending on the point of view. This could be an apple orchard, your home, or a neighbor's house.
Stylizing a garden composition so that it fits into any environment is extremely difficult. At the same time, it is also impossible not to take into account what is located around: the composition will be divorced from reality, integrity will be lost.
So, a rock garden laid out in the middle of the lawn, and even against the backdrop of English mixed borders, looks at least strange.
What is the cause of visual discomfort? The rock garden is a clear stylization, an attempt to imitate a piece of alpine nature. But a stylized composition cannot exist on its own, without context.
The environment in which a flower garden with an all-round view is built in the garden affects not only its style, but also the choice of location.
For example, you don’t like your neighbor’s house. So why create a composition against its background? Trying to cover up an unsightly view? Unfortunately, it's unlikely to work. Most likely, you will not block the neighbor's house, but, on the contrary, will draw attention to it, since you will constantly look at it, admiring your composition.
Most often, the problem is solved by slightly shifting the composition. Please note: to distract from an unpleasant sight, a person simply turns away.
These photos show flower beds and flower beds in the garden landscape design, created according to the principle of opposition and similarity:
Surprisingly, some unknown force forces many people to place all-round viewing compositions directly in the geometric center of the lawn, pond, or site. Know that this is only justified when the garden has a regular layout. But in most cases, we do not strive to contrast our garden with nature, but, on the contrary, we try to model certain natural communities.
When composing a garden composition of flowers, centering looks unnatural, since something like this cannot be found in nature. Try moving the group relative to the center and you will see how the picture comes to life.
Do-it-yourself landscape design: dimensions of a flower bed or flower garden
When a place has been found for a flower arrangement in the garden, created with your own hands, you need to decide on its size. The height and width cannot be too large, otherwise the composition cannot be appreciated as a whole. On the other hand, a composition that is too small on a spacious lawn looks comical. As you can see, both options are dangerous.
- Width. Unlike a mixborder, the all-round view composition is built in such a way that it is perceived holistically. Since we see the composition from different points - from the porch, from the gazebo, and from the path - we need to make some calculations. From each view point of the flower bed in the garden of a private house, using a square, construct 30-degree angles towards the intended location of the group. The intersection of the corners forms an area that will become the approximate width of the composition. Of course, you can deviate a little from the sizes. But just a little, not significantly.
- Height. It is necessary that the tall elements not only fall into the vertical angle of view, but also have a little “air” at the edges - a strip of lawn in front of the composition, a piece of sky above. This is only possible if the decorative group is removed from the view point at a distance equal to at least 2-2.5 times its height. Theoretically, to calculate the height of the tallest element in the composition, you need to measure the distance from the viewpoint to the intended location and divide it by 2 or 2.5. But in this case, everything is more complicated, since there are several viewpoints.
Look how beautiful the landscape flower beds are in these photos:
Your task is to build a composition that will look good from all sides. Therefore, we proceed as follows. First, select the farthest view point. Knowing the width of the composition, we calculate the height of the main element (core). To make the flower garden in the garden beautiful, we select subordinate elements to the core. We do this based on the laws of proportionation and color, as well as taking into account the nature of seasonal changes in plants. A little later we will talk about these laws in more detail.
Then we move to another point. If the distance to the composition is the same, there is no problem. But when it is significantly smaller, we do not see the entire group, but only its part (either lower or upper). For example, if the main element of a composition of garden plants is, then from the first point the cone is visible, and from the second - only the green background of the needles.
It is against this background that we will build a new group. That is, we will again select the main and subordinate elements, taking into account all the conditions.
The main thing is not to spoil what was done before, that is, not to build a new garden composition with your own hands, but to harmoniously complement an existing one. Next, we go through the remaining viewpoints and proceed in the same way.
The structure of a garden flower arrangement of perennial plants
The design and structure of the flower bed in the garden depends on the chosen style. The all-round decorative group can be designed in a landscape or regular style. Landscape compositions are more common in gardens.
When designing flower beds and flower beds in the garden, keep in mind that a regular composition has a concentric structure. The main element is placed in the center. Shrubs and/or perennials are planted at different distances from it, maintaining symmetry.
The flower garden elements in such a garden composition have strict geometric contours. Plants with picturesque crown shapes are used extremely rarely.
But the composition may not produce the desired effect if it is in the wrong environment. Imagine a lawn surrounded by picturesque groups of shrubs and flower beds of perennials. Agree, a regular group located in the center of such a lawn looks comical.
Among the smooth lines of mixborders, a landscape-type composition looks much better. Such a group is not located in the geometric center of the lawn. In addition, its main element is also not centered.

Landscape design tricks: principles of creating a flower garden in the garden (with photos)
Regardless of what composition - regular or landscape - you decide to create, the principles do not change. There are only two of them. They are called differently: either the principles of contrast and nuance, or the methods of opposition and similarity. Taking these landscape tricks into account, when creating a flower bed in the garden, in both cases a comparative analysis of the elements used in the composition is carried out.
Working on the principle of contrast (opposition), we choose plants that are sharply different from each other. Plants selected according to the principle of nuance (similarity) also have differences, but these differences are stepwise and insignificant.
By the characteristics being compared, we mean the size of plants, their color, shape and texture of the crown surface. By contrasting the characteristics (vertical - horizontal, dark - light, pyramidal - spherical), we get contrast. Stepwise change (rich green - light green - salad; small ball on a high stem - medium ball on a medium stem - large ball on the ground) gives nuanced combinations.
It is worth noting that not all characteristics can be compared in both cases. For example, contrast in shape is often used, but contrast in size is a utopian matter. And vice versa, it is quite difficult to imagine a nuance in form, but a nuance in size - please.
How to design a flower garden in the garden, selecting plants based on the principle of contrast? This is quite easy to do. But keep in mind, this is a very strong move. Using it, it is easy to go too far, that is, to create an unnecessarily tense composition. Why is there no tension in nature? Because we don't see contrasts. This doesn't mean they don't exist. In addition, natural contrasts are extremely expressive. Imagine the water surface of a pond and the vertical lines of weeping willow branches, coastal reeds and rounded leaves of water lilies.
The same goes for sharp color contrasts. Sometimes they cause a storm of emotions. In the short term this is not bad. For example, in a bouquet for a loved one, color intensity is appropriate.
As can be seen in the photo, in a garden composition or flower garden a sharp color contrast is possible only if certain conditions are met:
For example, a short contemplation of contrasting flowers blooming at the same time is pleasant. But not everyone can tolerate the combination of blue-black Ottawa with lemon-yellow Thunberg barberry ‘Aigea’, which “pleasers” from spring to autumn.
If the site already has a similar beautiful garden composition and you don’t want to part with it, you can weaken the contrast with the help of silver, white-variegated or abundantly blooming white flowers. There are now a lot of similar plants, both herbaceous and woody.
The method of contrast or nuance is also applicable to the relationship of a composition with its surroundings. For example, a group of vertical conifers against the background of a squat “Finnish” house made of timber (contrast in shape). Or a circular nuanced composition of blue-violet plants against the background of a yellow fence (contrast in color).
Nuanced relationships can be built in a similar way. But many are afraid that in this case the composition will merge with the surroundings, that is, it will not be perceived independently. This is what forces gardeners to move the group away from place-bound objects and place it almost in the center of the open space. This line of thinking is wrong.
There is a rule for constructing a composition that says: if parts that are similar in color, texture, shape and size are placed at a close distance, they will merge into the whole. It turns out that in order for the group to blend with the environment, you need to build a composition from the same plants that are in the environment. But, as you understand, this rarely happens.
These photos show flower arrangements in the garden, created taking into account all the principles:
Building a beautiful garden composition of flowers with your own hands (with photo)
When creating flower beds and flower beds in landscape design with your own hands, after choosing a method of working with plants, they begin to build a composition. Regardless of what composition you have in mind, landscape or regular, nuanced or contrasting, the hierarchy of elements must be clearly observed in it: the main one - subordinates of the first order - subordinates of the second order and so on. Moreover, the lower the level, the more elements it contains.
Pay attention to the photo - in a flower garden in a garden there is always one main element, with more subordinates:
The number of components of the lowest level is not even counted. The reverse relationship is impossible for the simple reason that this does not happen in nature.
First, based on the height, location and stylistic image, when decorating a flower bed in the garden, the dominant of the group is chosen. It is very important to choose a plant of the correct shape.
Have you ever seen a plant in nature with a clear vertical contour subordinate to a spreading one? On the contrary - please, otherwise - no. In addition, some plants have a “tired look” (stephanandra, kerria). They are also difficult to imagine as dominant.
These photos show how to design a flower garden in the garden, taking into account all the principles of composition:
Landscape design of a summer cottage: proportions of a flower garden (with photo)
We will assume that you have figured out the number of elements. How to determine the size of a flower bed in a garden created with your own hands? It is clear that the height of the subordinate elements is less than the height of the main one. In this case, the difference in heights cannot be either too large or too small. If the subordinate element differs slightly in height, it will compete with the main one, and if it is larger in volume, it may even dominate, shifting the emphasis in an undesirable direction.
As shown in the photo, in the landscape design of a summer cottage, flower beds will be perceived more harmoniously if the ratio of the heights of all elements of the composition approximately corresponds to the proportion of the golden ratio:
- Golden ratio proportion: segment AB is divided by point C in the proportion of the golden ratio if its length (AB) is related to its larger part (AC), as the larger part (AC) is related to its smaller part (CB). The exact digital expression of the proportion is 0.618: 0.382. But, you will agree, it is inconvenient to use the digital expression of proportion. In addition, when working with plants, mathematical precision is not needed. It is better to use a series of Fibonacci numbers, where each subsequent number is obtained by adding the two previous ones (1,2, 3, 5, 8,13, etc.). Starting with 3/5, each fraction in the series (5/8, 8/13, etc.) is a proportion of the golden ratio.
There is another way of proportioning. It is based on the unequal triangle rule. It is especially convenient to use this rule if the composition consists of three main elements. In plan they form an unequal triangle, the long side of which is in front of the observer, and the short side to the left of him.
The height of the elements is regulated: the middle one is the highest, the left one occupies an intermediate position, the right one is the lowest. If there is a need to move the middle-height element to the right, then the length of the sides is changed so that the short one is on the right.
As for the distances between plants, you should focus on the size of the crowns. The crowns of trees and shrubs should not close tightly, unless we are talking about bouquet planting. However, too much distance is bad. To decide on planting, it is necessary, keeping in mind the dimensions of the plants in adulthood, to plot them on the diagram.
How to decorate a flower garden in a dacha garden with your own hands: flower arrangements and their photos
An all-round view composition is not always created from different types of plants. It may well be homogeneous in composition.
In a sense, a group of trees in a bouquet planting can be considered a circular composition. The landing rules are as follows. Several trees of the same species are planted in a large hole or at a close distance (up to 50-60 cm). The type is chosen depending on the size of the group. The size, in turn, is regulated by the area of the site. It could be birch trees, nuts.
Trees will develop differently. Straight trunks of pine trees will shoot up, birch trees will bend in an arched manner, and the nuts will completely spread their trunks away from each other. In this case, the total crown will cover a fairly large area, and the plants will look like one multi-stemmed tree with a lush crown.
When choosing plants for a flower garden created with your own hands in the landscape design of a dacha, first of all, evaluate the environmental conditions of the site. The option when they try to change the conditions due to the requirements of the plants will not work here. In addition, the garden areas intended for planting must be sufficient for the development of both the above-ground part of such a group and its root system.
These photos show the design of flower beds in the garden, consisting of different plants:
Of course, there cannot be such diversity as in the compositions of a one-sided view. There cannot be diversity: all the types that we use must be combined in physiognomic type and style. Although the opportunity to diversify the assortment certainly remains.
Speaking about the assortment, we cannot ignore the issue of perception of certain plants from different distances. There are plants that look impressive from afar, others are only good up close.
Since the view point can be removed from the composition or, on the contrary, approach it almost closely, it is logical to arrange the plants so that their decorative qualities “work” to the maximum.
For example, some varieties, thanks to their bright bark, are very impressive in winter, and in summer they become a neutral background for other species and varieties. An ideal composition can be considered to be one that is consistently decorative and at the same time has changing accents. Most often, accents are colored (flowering dates, seasonal colors).
In a 360-degree composition, as in any other, the growth dynamics and longevity of plants are important. When creating this or that group, we focus on the size of plants in adulthood. And it is right. But it will take some time before the plants reach the designed size. And time plays a decisive role in the fate of a composition. Judge for yourself.
Different plants do not reach the peak of decorativeness at the same time, since they grow at different speeds. Because of this, the picture you painted in your imagination may not work out.
After all, by the time slow-growing plants mature, their fast-growing partners will have already left, having completed their life cycle. Therefore, plants with similar growth rates or different ages are selected for one composition.
What to do while your accent plants are growing? How to compensate for the lack of volume? Best color. This is explained by the peculiarities of visual perception. Bright colors distract the observer's attention from the lack of volume, and light colors make objects visually larger.
You can use fast-growing annuals (amaranth, castor beans), perennials and shrubs. And summer vines (nasturtium, sweet pea, morning glory) are good for entwining the supports. There is no need to make a stationary support. Let it be, for example, made of willow twig. By the time the trees grow, the support will rot, the annuals will change many times, some perennials or fast-growing shrubs will fall out, and you will abandon others yourself.
In winter, the picture can be enlivened with a feeder on a support. If you don’t forget to add cereal, such life will be in full swing around you that you will forget about the problem of lack of volume.
When selecting compensatory plants, it is important to take into account the biology of species that are already growing in a permanent place. Compensatory plantings should not harm the main ones.
So, if you cover the slowly growing Amur velvet with large annuals or perennials, this will even help it: shading will stimulate growth and contribute to the formation of a straight trunk. But a pine seedling cannot be planted in this way.
Look how original the flower beds in the garden of a private house look in these photos:
Do-it-yourself landscaping at the dacha: surrounding a flower bed in the garden
Finally, let us once again turn to the problem of visual unification of the decorative group with the surroundings. But merging is easy to avoid if you place the group at a distance of at least two of its diameters from the edge of the environment. If the plant composition of the group differs significantly from other plantings, the composition can be placed almost adjacent to a small dividing strip of lawn or paving. Agree, a decorative apple tree will not blend into a background of shrubs, even if they are separated by a narrow strip of lawn.
Many gardeners and vegetable gardeners have long ceased to concentrate all their attention exclusively on growing agricultural and vegetable crops and turned their attention to flowers. created with your own hands means adherence to certain principles and rules, it is painstaking work, the result of which is an ideal flower garden.
At the same time, the question naturally arises - how to properly form a flowerbed so that it looks harmonious and what flowers to choose for it?
Perennial flowers - the basis for creating a flower bed
There are two large varieties of flowers. The first group is those that are planted with seeds and grow throughout one season. The second group is perennials, plants that require more care, but at the same time are able to please the gardener for several years.
Perennial plants have a number of advantages that are valued among those who like to grow flowers on their property:
- large species diversity, which is very important when creating a flower bed;
- long life of the plant. Only the upper part dies, and the roots can exist for more than 6 years in some plants;
- propagation using rhizomes, shoots or seeds, which allows you to later replant flowers in other flower beds and create additional flower beds;
- a large number of medicinal plants, including perennial species, which makes it possible to get a real “green” pharmacy at the dacha.
Rules for creating a flower bed
The very process of designing and creating a flowering flower bed on a site can be compared to art, since even at the design stage it is necessary to take into account how the flower garden will look at different times of the year. A properly created flower garden is when fading plant species are replaced by new ones and remain so throughout the summer.
Planning for the creation of a flowering area is required upon completion of the general zoning of the personal territory, when the locations of beds, paths, and shrubs and trees will be distributed.
When creating a flower bed, you should pay attention to:
- climate. When choosing plants, you should choose species that will feel comfortable in the selected climate zone;
- features of the site. Using the terrain will not only help you use free space wisely, but will also allow you to create interesting design options;
- character of the soil. Another important parameter that will influence the choice of perennial plants. Fertile soil is ideal for mallow, bluebell. Loam, sand or rocky soil will be suitable for growing flax, valerine,. Swampy soil is suitable for cornflower, yarrow. Too dry soil is a place for cultivating cosmos, carnations or gaillardia;
- illumination of the area. Where there is sun for more than 6 hours during the day, you can grow peony, poppy, aster, and phlox. If access to light is limited to an interval of 4 to 6 hours, then it is best to choose plants such as astilbe, iris, aquilenia, and primrose. Ferns, lily of the valley, and hosta are suitable for shady flower beds.
- planting density and flowering time. You should not over-partition when planting plants, as they can simply “clog” each other.
Hostas and heucheras are an amazing option for creating a shady flower bed. You can get by only with varieties of these two crops - they are so diverse that they are enough to create a colorful canvas.
The combination of colors is an important factor when creating a flower bed.
Psychologists have long established that color greatly influences a person’s condition and this applies to all areas of life. That is why, when creating a flower garden from perennial plants, increased attention is paid to this parameter. A proper combination of colors will allow you to achieve aesthetics in the flowerbed. When distributing color, it would be useful to familiarize yourself with the general principles of creating a palette and mixing shades:
- the color combination largely depends on the play of light and shadow, so the presence of smooth leaves on plants will reflect light, while matte ones will absorb light;
- when choosing unity of brightness of colors, you must use only one color palette, either warm or cool;
- in order to visually increase the size of a small flower bed, it is necessary minimize the number of colors on it and get rid of excessive contrast;
- to visually increase the size of the flower bed, you can place blue flowers in the background, and yellow or red species in the foreground;
- the more saturated the foreground of the flowerbed is, the calmer the back should be;
- When creating not a single flower bed, but a whole flower garden, it is recommended to use desaturated shades as a background, such as white, pink or blue. Contrasting flowers should be arranged in small groups that will occupy no more than a sixth of the total space;
- according to the rules of floristry in the territory of one garden It is not allowed to have more than one flower bed with bright flowers. You should also avoid unnecessary contrasts when designing;
- with the rich color of the main plants on the club, it can be diluted with more neutral shades;
- upon landing areas of different colors should be measured. On a blue background, a small red spot will look appropriate, but an enlarged one will simply be annoying;
- It is recommended to choose the main color of the composition in accordance with the purpose of the flower garden and its location, namely the climate zone. It has also been noted that city dwellers are more predisposed to natural shades, while rural dwellers prefer bright colors, which are almost impossible to find in nature.
A small flower bed with tall delphiniums is a rare and complex option; in this case, it does not look bulky due to the surroundings (tall trees, borders, building).
Schemes of simple flower beds for beginners
Modern flower beds can have different geometric shapes, but there is a difference into two large groups - flower beds with regular and irregular compositions.
- Regular composition assumes the presence of a clear geometric pattern, while all the plants in such a flower garden bloom at the same time and there are clear boundaries between them.
- Irregular composition differs by grouping plants and fitting the flower garden into the landscape. It is for flower beds with irregular compositions that the most optimal will be perennial plants that can bloom alternately, which will increase the flowering time.
Ready-made diagrams will help you create the right flowerbed, which will please the eye and allow you to choose the optimal choice of plants for it. Moreover, regardless of the chosen form, there is a general pattern of planting flowers in a flower bed. In the center there are the brightest and tallest specimens, the middle part is a place for plants of medium height, and at the edges there should be low-growing long-flowering perennials or just ornamental grass.
- Rectangle. A flowerbed that has a clear rectangular shape. At the same time, a pattern can be created inside from a combination of different plants.
- Oval. The next simple option is an oval flower bed. In this type of diagram, the center of the flower garden and the zonal division are very clearly visible.
- Circle. The third is a simple figure that can become a shape for a flower bed. Round flower beds are most often used in garden plots, since this shape makes access to all plants easier, which simplifies care.
- Triangle. An unusual and not the most standard form for a flower bed, which can be used if it is necessary to “fit” a flower garden into a certain limited space.
In addition to the four basic geometric shapes, which can be easily mastered by beginners, there are specific examples of flower garden designs:
- Round flowerbed “Spring Symphony”. Number 1 is pink matthiola, 2 is red zinnia, 3 is white verbena. This option has only three shades - red, pink and white, which in no way affects the appearance.
- Concentric flower bed, consisting of regular concentric circles that are easy to draw yourself. This variant contains the following flowers: 1 – dark-leaved cannas, 2 – fluffy gnafalium, 3 – perilla nankinensis.
- Contrasting flower bed “White and pink”. A simple square flower bed in which white and red shades will predominate. Among the flowers there will be the following representatives of perennials: 1 - cornflower, 2 - , 3 - white delphinium, 4 - physostegia, 5 - phlox, 6 - arabis, 7 - clematis, 8 - armeria, 9 - daylily, 10 - irises, 11 - lupine , 12 – obrietta.
- Shade-loving flowerbed “Colors of Summer”. A special feature of this flower garden is the predominance of shade-loving plants. To design a flowerbed you will need: 1 – common primrose, 2 – Arends’ astilbe, 3 – periwinkle, 4 – bluebell, 5 – bergenia, 6 – large-leaved brunnera, 7 – jagged buzulnik, 8 – purple foxglove.
Recently, high flower beds, which are created in specially made boxes just under a meter high, have become widespread. Such a flower bed is easy to care for, fewer weeds grow on it, but at the same time the process of creating it is more complex and troublesome.
Sometimes there is a need to create a flower bed in low light conditions, for example, in the shadow of a fence or along the wall of a house. In this case, you should select plants that can grow with little natural color. You can create flower beds in accordance with the following schemes:
- shady flower bed. It includes: 1 – bergenia; 2 – thimble, 3 – , 4 – soft cuff; 5 – variegated, 6 – .
- flower garden located along the north side of the house. The following plants will be present in such a flowerbed: 1, 2, 3 - hosta of different varieties, 4.5 - western thuja, 6 - , 7 - , 8 - , 9 - hosta, 10 - bergenia, 11 - black spruce, 12 - citrine .
Types of perennial plants for a small garden
Among the most suitable perennial plants for planting in small flower beds are:
- . The plant is popularly known as a fighter. Blooms from July to August;
- Endress geranium. An unpretentious plant that tolerates lack of moisture well. Flowering time June-August;
- scarlet. One of the primroses in the flowerbed; the first buds appear in May. May bloom again in September;
- . A plant that is widespread in the middle zone. It blooms from June to July, and if pruned at a short distance from the ground, it can re-bloom;
- . Also a popular perennial that blooms from April to May;
- Doronicum plantain. A plant ideal for damp and shady places. Also refers to primroses;
- the bell is crowded. A flower that also grows well in the shade. Color appears in June;
- meconopsis. A plant that requires a minimum of care, consisting in removing fading buds. Blooms from May to June;
- hellebore. A flower that thrives best in fertile soil and shade;
- musk mallow. A perennial that is not susceptible to growing conditions and feels good even in the shade. Blooms from early summer to September;
- . A plant of the succulent family, belonging to the ground covers. Flowering period from July to September;
- function. An ornamental deciduous plant that can be used in a flowerbed to create green mass;
- . A plant known to many, capable of regaining color when pruned. Blooms from June to late August

Selecting plants in the space of one flowerbed will allow you to get a flower garden that will delight you with a riot of colors throughout the summer season.
Labor-intensive perennial flowers to grow in a flowerbed
Labor-intensive crops include those that will require regular care and the creation of special conditions for growth. Also, plants in this category often get sick, are unstable to changes in climatic conditions, and are susceptible to disease. This group includes most representatives of bulbous plants, lilies, roses, gladioli, dahlias, hyacinth, kaempfera, evening primrose, and begonia.
Mixed rose garden - an option for the ideal combination of roses and perennials
The term “” is usually understood as a flower bed where only roses are grown. But in central Russia, where summer is not very long, it is customary to create mixed rose gardens, where various perennial plants find their place in the flower garden, which makes it possible to structure the flower bed. There are several simple schemes for designing a mixed rosary:
- rose garden in cool colors. The entire flowerbed is done in cold pink and lilac tones, which evokes a feeling of freshness and coolness. The diagram contains the following flowers: 1 - chist, 2 - gerchera, 3 - , 4 - William Shakespeare rose, 5 - Queen of Sweden rose, 6 - clematis, 7 - Gertrude Jekyll rose, 8 - Mary Rose rose.
- contrasting rose garden. A flowerbed built using red and white colors with a background in the form of a bush that blooms throughout the summer. The following plants are used for decoration: 1 – hosta, 2 – Gartnerfreunde rose , 3 – verbascum, 4 – rose Aspirin Rose, 5 – rose Hansaland, 6 – paniculata hydrangea, 7 – rose Amadeus, 8 – rose Schneewittchen, 9 – horizontal, 10 – dwarf spruce.
Flowerbed for the lazy - what is it?
For those who want to enjoy passive relaxation in their garden plot, but at the same time receive aesthetic pleasure, there is a concept - “a flowerbed for the lazy.” Such a flower garden contains plants that require virtually no care and are not demanding on watering or fertilizing. In this case, the duration of flowering can last from early spring to autumn.
Most often, online stores selling flowers are ready to offer customers who do not have time to get acquainted with the nuances of growing plants, ready-made options that include flower bed layout diagrams with a description of the flowers.
A specific option could be an oval-shaped flower bed, in which there will be: peonies in the center, astilbe in front of them, sedum on the right edge, geranium on the left, and hosta or bergenia will border it all. You can also plant an aster or phlox in this flowerbed, which will only add brightness to the color.
The cost of such a project will cost approximately 600-700 rubles, with the most expensive being peonies, which are best purchased as seedlings.
A special feature of this option is the continuous flowering of a particular plant species. In this case, the flowerbed itself will not be particularly bright, but the stability of the appearance of flowering plants will be observed.
Plants that would also be suitable for a lazy bed include irises, daffodils, phlox, daylily, clematis, lupine or cornflower. Moreover, in this case there is no need to create a variety of planted varieties or species, since the greater the number of flowers, the more care will be required.

Do-it-yourself flowerbed at the dacha, in the garden for beginners from tires: design, photo
Flower beds occupy a place of honor in country and garden plots. Beautiful flowers delight the eye and improve the mood of not only the owners, but also passers-by who see such beauty.
Agree, the framing of the flower bed is no less important. Flowers planted in a beautiful fence make flower beds neat and much more attractive.
You can buy ready-made fences of various shapes: plastic, metal, wood. As well as a variety of fancy containers: vases, pots, barrels, etc. Unfortunately, such devices can put a big dent in your pocket. Therefore, people with good imagination found a way out - to make fences from scrap materials. This is not only a way to save money, but also an opportunity to have fun.
Many families have things in their summer cottage that are long overdue to be thrown away. Don't rush to part with old things, give them new life. For example, old car tires.
Flowerbeds from old things
Before you start turning a tire into a “flower house”, you should prepare it:
- Thoroughly wash away traces of dirt
- Degrease the tire with acetone or white spirit
- Apply paint in one layer or draw patterns
Important: Worn tires are well suited for decorating flower beds; they are easier to apply paint on.
In this simple way, you can get, although such a modern, but quite worthy alternative to expensive fencing.
Tires can be placed around the perimeter of the flowerbed, arranged in a checkerboard pattern, placed one on top of the other, or hung on a tree. Any of the options, if played with taste, will look beautiful.

How to make a flowerbed with your own hands from stones?
Wonderful stylish flower beds are made from stones. If the stone is laid correctly, the flowerbed will last a long time.
To make a multi-tiered or high flower bed from stone, you must have certain skills and knowledge.
- First of all, you should make a foundation of sufficient depth.
- When laying stones, use cement mortar to fill gaps.
- Also make drainage holes in the fencing.
- After the cement has hardened, apply sealant to the seams between the stones to prevent cracks from forming.
Important: Secure the stones with cement only on the inside of the flowerbed so that the outside looks like neat, dry masonry.

How to make a flowerbed with your own hands from brick?
Brick is another suitable material for fencing flower beds.
Brick can be used to make not just a beautiful decorative fence, but also prevent the growth of weeds throughout the area.
Important: When choosing a brick color, you should take into account the color scheme of the area. It is desirable that the colors be combined with each other, then the brick flowerbed will harmoniously fit into the overall picture.
Brick flower beds can be made of different heights:
- High
- Low
- Multi-tiered
- Border
The configuration is also not limited to one or two options. If space allows, you can make a polygonal flowerbed, rounded or of any shape.
Often brick flower beds are adjacent to the wall.

The process of constructing a flower bed made of brick like this:
- First, outline the flower bed.
- Then dig a trench along the contour.
- After this, lay the bricks in one row.
- The next day, compact the bricks by walking on them.
- Now you need to fix the brick with mortar: pour a mixture of cement and dry sand into the cracks, spread the mixture evenly with a brush, then use a hose and a water spray nozzle to moisten the top layer of the brick.
- Using a brush, carefully remove any remaining mortar from the brick.
- Give the solution time to dry.

How to make a flowerbed from concrete?
Flowerbeds with concrete fencing look quite bulky, but at the same time they are laconic. Concrete flower beds have a number of advantages and disadvantages.
Let's start with advantages:
- Concrete is durable, the flowerbed will not collapse under the influence of precipitation.
- The material retains its aesthetic appearance for a long time.
- A concrete flowerbed will not be damaged by vandals or stolen. Unfortunately, this also happens.
A little about shortcomings:
- Concrete flower beds are bulky and take up a lot of space. This is not suitable for small areas.
- You will not be able to move such a flowerbed if you suddenly need to change the design of the site. We'll have to tear it down completely.
- Concrete flower beds are not suitable for every site in style. Sometimes they only enhance the dullness and facelessness of the territory.
Concrete borders and planters can look great if you place them correctly and plant the right flowers.
Important: The practicality of a concrete flower bed depends entirely on the quality of the solution. For a good solution you need to take 1 bucket of cement, water and crushed stone, as well as 3 buckets of sand.
To make a concrete fence, you first need to make formwork - a frame, which is subsequently filled with mortar.
Level the poured solution with a spatula and wait until it dries. Drill holes in the finished fence for drainage. Concrete flower beds can be painted with façade paint, laid out with mosaics or beautiful stones.
